Therapy focused on understanding patterns of relating and development of the selfStress and anxietyLow self-esteemFamily of origin issuesGay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and questioningTransgender, transsexual, transitioning, and genderqueerWe are all affected by our first attachment relationships: our parents or caregivers. However we related or attached to these individuals, we see a repetition of the same patterns with present attachment figures (partners, children, therapists). Understanding these deeply-embedded ways of relating and viewing the world can help us overcome relational blocks in our current lives. Whether you had a happy childhood or not, you have certainly been influenced by your family of origin. If your childhood was especially difficult, you may benefit from processing that early hurt that could still be negatively affecting your present life. Exploring your childhood relationships could be helpful for you if you feel emotionally triggered when reflecting on your family, if you tend to fight with, avoid, or feel bad when you see your family now, and if you notice you are behaving in undesired ways with your children that are reminiscent of your own childhood.
